Job summary

Scribd, Inc. seeks an engineering manager for Content Foundations to lead the team responsible for how content enters Scribd.

This is a leadership role at the intersection of large-scale data infrastructure and applied AI, with responsibilities spanning platform vision, security, and cross-functional collaboration. You will hire, grow, and inspire backend and AI data engineers, drive the team’s roadmap, and partner with product and engineering leaders to deliver scalable ingestion and data

Qualifications

• 8+ years in software engineering with 3+ years leading backend, data-infrastructure, or platform engineering teams.
• Experience with high-throughput distributed systems and data pipelines: streaming and event-driven architectures.
• Enthusiasm for applied AI in production systems, with experience integrating ML models or intent to do so.
• A platform-product mindset; built systems other teams depend on and design interfaces and SLAs.
• Security-minded approach; safe handling of untrusted input and data protection.
• Operational excellence: reliability, observability, and on-call health.
• Clear, direct communication with product, engineering, and cross-functional partners.

Responsibilities

• Own vision and strategy for content ingestion and evolve Scribd’s platform into real-time ingestion.
• Build AI into core platform, enabling understanding, trust, and enrichment from moment of arrival.
• Translate platform capability into product impact, aligning with supply-side roadmap and discoverability.
• Lead, grow, and inspire a founding backend/AI data engineering team, defining culture and standards.
• Manage roadmap and commitments across content organization; build operational excellence of the system.
• Champion security by design and ensure safe processing of untrusted content at scale.
