Scribd, Inc. is seeking an Engineering Manager for Content Foundations to build and lead a high-scale ingestion platform that uses AI to understand, trust, and enrich documents the moment they arrive.

You will guide a founding team of backend and AI data engineers, shaping its culture, standards, and growth from day one. You’ll partner with product and trust & safety to deliver reliable, secure pipelines across the organization and translate platform capabilities into measurable business impact

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience with leadership experience in backend, data-infrastructure, or platform teams.
• Experience with high-throughput distributed systems and data pipelines at scale.
• Passion for applying AI in production systems, with ML model integration experience or strong intent.
• Platform-product mindset with interfaces, SLAs, and dependencies understood by multiple teams.
• Security-focused design for handling untrusted input and data protection from the start.
• Operational excellence including reliability, observability, and on-call readiness.
• Excellent, direct communication with product, engineering, and cross-functional partners.

Responsibilities

• Own the vision for how content enters Scribd and evolve the ingestion platform toward real-time, AI-native capabilities.
• Integrate AI into the platform in collaboration with ML and AI teams so documents are understood, trusted, and enriched upon arrival.
• Turn platform capabilities into product impact by delivering the supply-side roadmap and making content discoverable and actionable for AI agents.
• Lead, grow, and inspire a founding backend/AI data engineering team, defining culture, standards, and career growth from day one.
• Run the team as a product with a defined roadmap and commitments that other teams can plan against.
• Champion security as a core design principle for safe, scalable processing of untrusted content.
