Job summary

Syms Strategic Group (SSG) is seeking a Data Platform Engineer to lead the next phase of our healthcare data platform modernization. This remote, full-time role focuses on migrating from MSSQL/XML to a scalable AWS-based architecture that enables analysts to run SQL-based reports.

You will evaluate AWS data services, design the reporting layer, build a data catalog, and collaborate with a C#/.NET team to ensure smooth data flows from EDI pipelines through the new data layer, using CodePipeline,

Qualifications

8+ years’ experience in software or data engineering with a strong AWS focus.
Experience migrating cloud data platforms in production environments.
Proven ability to evaluate AWS data services to meet reporting needs.
Hands-on experience with S3, Athena, Glue, Redshift, OpenSearch, Lambda, IAM, and CloudWatch.
Strong SQL and data modeling skills for relational queries on XML/JSON.
Experience with XML-heavy data stores and healthcare data is a plus.
Familiarity with CI/CD practices and AWS-native tooling (CodePipeline, CodeBuild, CodeDeploy).
IaC with CDK, CloudFormation or Terraform.

Responsibilities

Lead the next phase of healthcare data platform modernization.
Evolve MSSQL/XML object store toward a scalable, cloud-native AWS architecture for SQL-based reporting.
Evaluate and decide the right AWS data strategy for the platform.
Design and build a reporting layer enabling business users to run relational SQL queries.
Architect the migration path from MSSQL XML data to the AWS platform.
Build and maintain AWS data catalog, schemas, and metadata management.
Optimize query performance and cost across AWS services (partitioning, formats, tuning).
Collaborate with stakeholders to translate reporting requirements into data models.
Coordinate data flows from EDI pipelines into the new data layer with .NET backend integration.
Implement CI/CD pipelines using AWS CodePipeline, CodeBuild, CodeDeploy; IaC via CDK/CF/Terraform.
Document architecture decisions and data dictionaries for both technical and non-technical audiences.
