Syms Strategic Group, LLC is seeking a Data Platform Engineer to lead modernization of a healthcare data platform. The role focuses on migrating from MSSQL XML to a scalable AWS data architecture, enabling SQL-based reporting for business stakeholders.

You will evaluate AWS data strategies, design storage/query patterns, and build a durable data model for analysts. Strong AWS, SQL, and data catalog skills are essential.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software or data engineering with a strong AWS focus.
• Proven experience architecting cloud data migrations in enterprise/healthcare.
• Experience selecting AWS data services to meet reporting needs.
• Experience delivering analytics for non-technical users.
• Hands-on AWS data services knowledge: S3, Athena, Glue, Aurora, DynamoDB, Redshift, OpenSearch, Lambda, IAM, CloudWatch.

Responsibilities

• Lead the next phase of healthcare data platform modernization.
• Evolve MSSQL XML object store toward cloud-native AWS architecture for SQL-based reporting.
• Evaluate AWS data strategy and storage options (S3+Athena, Aurora, DynamoDB, Redshift, OpenSearch).
• Design and build reporting layers for SQL queries by business users.
• Architect migration path of XML object store data to AWS with storage formats and partitioning.
• Maintain AWS data catalog, schemas, and metadata for discoverability.
• Optimize query performance and cost across AWS services.
