Job summary

Syms Strategic Group (SSG) is seeking a Data Platform Engineer to advance the healthcare data platform. This remote role focuses on migrating an MSSQL XML object store to a cloud-native AWS architecture, enabling analysts to run SQL-based reports efficiently.

You will evaluate AWS data architectures, design scalable data storage, and build the reporting layer for non-technical users. Collaboration with C#/.Net teams and IaC practices is expected.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in software or data engineering with a strong AWS focus.
• Experience migrating cloud data platforms in healthcare or enterprise environments.
• Ability to select AWS data services to meet reporting needs.
• Experience delivering analytics solutions for non-technical users.
• Hands-on AWS data services including S3, Athena, Glue, Aurora and more.
• Strong SQL to design relational query layers over XML/JSON data.
• Experience with XML-heavy data stores and data transformation at scale.

Responsibilities

• Lead the healthcare data platform modernization efforts.
• Evolve MSSQL XML object store to a scalable cloud-native AWS architecture for SQL reports.
• Evaluate AWS data strategy and optimal storage/query architectures (S3+Athena, Aurora, DynamoDB, Redshift, OpenSearch).
• Design and build a reporting layer for business users using familiar SQL tooling.
• Architect migration of XML object store data into AWS platform with efficient storage formats.
• Maintain AWS data catalog, schemas, and metadata for discoverability.
• Optimize performance and cost across AWS services with partitioning and tuning.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to translate reporting requirements into data models.
