Job summary

SSOE is seeking a Senior Architect for Pharmaceutical & Life Sciences projects in a multi-site setting, including cGMP manufacturing suites, labs, and related facilities. You will lead design, coordinate across engineering teams, and ensure compliance with GMP, IBC/IFC/NFPA as well as lab-specific standards.

You will mentor junior staff, contribute to master specifications and BIM standards, and stay ahead of trends like continuous manufacturing and ATMPs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture from an accredited program.
• Active Registered Architect (RA) license in the U.S. or eligibility for reciprocity.
• 10+ years in architectural design for pharmaceutical, biotech, or life sciences facilities.
• Experience leading design-build teams on GMP-driven projects.
• Strong knowledge of cGMP, ISPE Baseline Guides, and relevant codes.

Responsibilities

• Lead architectural design for complex pharma and life sciences projects (cGMP mfg, labs, QA/QC, R&D).
• Provide technical leadership and oversee coordinated construction documents meeting GMP and FDA standards.
• Coordinate with engineering disciplines for holistic, constructible designs.
• Apply IBC, IEBC, IFC, NFPA 45/30/400, ADA/ABA codes in all project phases.
• Ensure cleanroom envelope integrity and GMP-compliant finish detailing.
• Lead reviews, QA/QC, and constructability checks focusing on GMP compliance.
• Collaborate with process engineers, validation, C&Q, and project management in a design-build setting.
• Develop design concepts, risk assessments, and regulatory strategies for clients.
• Mentor junior staff and stay current on GMP trends and ATMPs.
