Job summary

OpenAI in New York City seeks an Applied AI Engineer to lead production deployments of frontier AI capabilities and serve as a trusted advisor to enterprise customers. You will write production-grade code, build evaluation systems, and guide decisions on model behavior, latency, and safety while shaping customer roadmaps.

This role is based in NYC with a hybrid schedule (3 days in the office per week) and relocation assistance for new hires.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of deep, hands-on technical experience in AI/ML systems.
• Proven track record leading production-scale AI/ML deployments.
• Strong Python, JavaScript, and TypeScript skills.
• Ability to translate complex requirements into production architecture.

Responsibilities

• Embed with platform customers to prototype and evaluate new applications.
• Guide architecture decisions and customer roadmaps.
• Collaborate with Product and Research to validate frontier AI capabilities.
• Publish best practices and share knowledge internally and externally.
• Travel for on-site workshops as needed.
