Job summary

People In AI is building an Applied AI team in New York City and seeks a Senior or Staff engineer to join as the third engineer, owning the development of AI agents that act across complex financial systems. The role is hybrid in NYC, with a base compensation of $200k–$250k plus equity, and the team operates within a broader, established engineering organization.

You will help define architecture, engineering standards, and production AI practices while collaborating with experienced engineers

Qualifications

• Senior/Staff level candidate with rapid progression or major system ownership.
• Strong backend and system design fundamentals.
• Experience building and debugging production systems with high reliability.
• High agency to identify problems and drive solutions into production.
• Comfort operating without a fully defined roadmap or boundaries.
• Experience in both large-scale and fast-moving smaller teams is a plus.
• Interest in LLMs, agents, and modern AI systems.

Responsibilities

• Build and productionize customer-facing AI agents that perform real operational work.
• Enable agents to safely access data, use tools, and execute workflows.
• Own projects end to end from problem framing to design, implementation and production.
• Define standards for evals, monitoring, reliability, and failure handling.
• Collaborate across backend systems, product, infrastructure, and AI.
• Partner with customers, engineering leadership, and domain experts.
