Job summary

OpenAI is seeking a Forward Deployed Engineer to lead deployments of frontier AI models in production from the San Francisco area. You will embed with customer teams, map problems, and ship fast while ensuring reliability and performance.

The role emphasizes collaboration with researchers, product engineers, and customer engineers to validate approaches, improve tooling, and scale deployments. The position is based in San Francisco with a hybrid model (3 days in the office per week) and

Qualifications

• 5+ years of engineering or technical deployment experience that includes customer-facing work.
• Experience delivering complex systems in fast-moving or ambiguous environments.
• Production-grade software development and debugging across code, integrations and runtime behavior.

Responsibilities

• Own technical delivery for semiconductor and AI-infrastructure workstreams from scoping to deployment.
• Work closely with customer engineers to define workloads, baselines and success criteria.
• Scope delivery, identify blockers, and balance scope, speed and quality.
• Build and debug production-quality software including harnesses, integrations and features.
• Design reproducible experiments, evaluations and benchmarks to test approaches.
• Investigate model behavior and failure modes with researchers and contribute data or experiments.
• Contribute to core product development, shipping improvements and field learnings.
• Lead technical discussions across customer, Product and Research teams.
• Turn successful approaches into reusable software and playbooks.
