OpenAI is seeking a Manager, Forward Deployed Engineering in New York City. You will lead a team delivering production systems with frontier models, owning end-to-end outcomes from clarity to delivery and improving tools and playbooks for scalable field delivery.

You will partner with Product, Research, and Sales to influence roadmaps, ensuring safe deployment at scale. Expect a hybrid schedule, relocation assistance, and travel up to 25%.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of engineering or technical delivery experience
• 2+ years managing high-performing FDE or customer-facing engineers
• Led high-pressure technical projects from prototype to production
• Write and review production-grade code across frontend and backend using Javascript or Python
• Make fast, sound decisions under pressure
• Translate field experience into feedback for Product and Research
• Model calm, focus, and judgment to build trust and performance

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow a team of FDE delivering production systems with frontier models
• Own end-to-end delivery outcomes with clarity, speed, and technical quality
• Codify best practices into tools, playbooks, and roadmap inputs
• Identify early indicators and escalate with urgency
• Set high performance bars and provide direct feedback for growth
• Define staffing and support models to scale field delivery
