Job summary

CVS Health is seeking a Principal Engineer to own API design, security, and platform governance across a large enterprise API ecosystem. You will define scalable patterns for REST, GraphQL, and MCP interfaces, architect multi-environment delivery, and drive AI-powered capabilities within the developer platform.

You will lead teams across Cloud and on‑prem environments, mentor engineers, and contribute to architecture reviews, ensuring secure, compliant, and scalable API delivery across CVS

Qualifications

• 10+ years of software engineering with API design at enterprise scale.
• 5+ years API security including OAuth 2.0, OIDC, mTLS, rate limiting, and API threat modeling.
• 5+ years with API gateway products and API management platforms (e.g., Apigee, Kong, Azure APIM, or equivalent)
• 5+ years of backend development in Java/Spring Boot and/or Node.js
• 3+ years influencing technical direction across multiple teams in principal/architect capacity
• Experience building or operating an API catalog, developer portal, and internal developer platform
• Experience with GraphQL schema design and federation at scale.

Responsibilities

• Define and enforce standards for REST, GraphQL, event-driven, and MCP-based interfaces across the enterprise.
• Architect systems for delivering APIs and integrations to multi-environment targets (cloud and on-premises).
• Lead embedding AI-powered capabilities into the developer experience and MCP server tooling.
• Participate in architecture reviews, design docs, and PRs to improve long-term technical thinking.
• Design for extensibility and platform health metrics, guiding adoption across CVS teams.
