Job summary

CVS Health is seeking a Principal Engineer to shape the developer platform across Retail, Pharmacy, Health Solutions, and Aetna. You will own the technical direction for APIs, gateways, and enterprise catalog governance, guiding teams toward scalable, AI-enabled developer experiences.

You will lead design reviews, drive platform health metrics, and mentor engineers, partnering with product leadership to align roadmaps and ensure compliant, secure API delivery at scale.

Qualifications

10+ years of software engineering experience, with API design at enterprise scale.
5+ years of API security experience (OAuth 2.0, OIDC, mTLS, rate limiting).
5+ years working with API gateway products and management platforms (e.g., Apigee, Kong, Azure APIM).
5+ years backend development in Java/Spring Boot and/or Node.js.
5+ years working with large public cloud platforms (GCP, AWS, Azure).
3+ years influencing technical direction across multiple teams in a senior capacity.

Responsibilities

Define and enforce API design standards (REST, GraphQL, event-driven, MCP).
Lead lifecycle management from specification to retirement.
Architect systems delivering APIs to multi-environment targets (cloud and on-prem).
Guide secure-by-default patterns and collaborate with security teams.
