Job summary

CVS Health is seeking an experienced Senior Engineering Manager to lead an enterprise API platform at scale. You will drive backend API design, focus on GraphQL-based systems, and collaborate with product, design, and leadership to empower thousands of engineers.

You will set OKRs, mentor a team of frontend and backend engineers, and champion best practices in security, testing, and accessibility across CVS Health’s API ecosystem.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of leadership experience directly managing individual contributors.
• 7+ years of experience building enterprise grade applications at scale.
• 5+ years of experience with JavaScript.
• 3+ years of experience with TypeScript and modern Node.js backend development.
• Experience with API gateway technologies such as Kong, Apigee, or Azure API Management.
• Experience with distributed workflows, asynchronous orchestration, or job-processing systems such as Temporal or similar platforms.

Responsibilities

• Design and operate backend APIs at scale, with emphasis on GraphQL-based platforms.
• Set and monitor OKRs; ensure health of KPIs across the platform.
• Collaborate with engineering, business, and product to build strategy and roadmap.
• Partner with CVS Digital teams to align API platform with engineer needs.
• Mentor and hire high-performing engineers; foster strong engineering culture.
• Drive best practices in testing, security, code quality, and accessibility.
