Job summary

McFarland Johnson is seeking a Senior Resident Engineer with 12+ years of experience to lead construction oversight on complex airport projects across the Northeast. You will serve as a primary field contact for airport clients and contractors, guiding inspection teams and coordinating with project managers and design staff on runways, taxiways, and related infrastructure.

The role may be based in any Northeast office with assignments at Boston Logan, Manchester-Boston Regional, Nantucket

Qualifications

• 12+ years of experience in construction inspection, construction engineering, resident engineering, or related field.
• Experience leading field teams on complex civil infrastructure projects (pavement, grading, drainage, utilities).
• Airport construction experience preferred; highway experience valued.

Responsibilities

• Lead onsite construction oversight to verify work complies with plans, specs, and contract requirements.
• Serve as primary field contact for contractors, airport staff, inspection personnel, and MJ teams.
• Direct and coordinate field inspection teams, providing technical guidance and reviewing project documentation.
• Oversee construction progress, workmanship, schedules, and material testing; identify issues and drive resolution.
• Oversee daily field reports, photos, quantity measurements, and project records.
• Review contractor payment quantities and develop payment recommendations.
• Lead RFIs, submittals, and change orders; evaluate impacts with PMs and design teams.
• Escalate complex field issues when needed and coordinate around airport operations.
• Lead project meetings and coordinate punch lists, inspections, and closeout.
