Job summary

The State of South Carolina Department of Corrections is seeking a security supervisor to manage a level two facility’s shift operations and security measures. You will supervise, inspect, and enforce perimeter and internal security, ensure buildings are secured, and direct security resources for maximum safety.

You will train, develop, and counsel staff to ensure compliant duty performance, maintain control of weapons and equipment, and prepare required reports for the chain of command.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma and six years experience in correctional, security, military or police work.
• Two years of supervisory experience required.
• A degree in criminal justice or related field may substitute for supervisory experience year for year (associate and above = 2 year).
• Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and complete the basic supervisory course within six months of entry.

Responsibilities

• Schedules, directs, and manages the employment and duty activities of a security shift.
• Supervises perimeter and internal security and control measures.
• Prepares, submits and monitors reports required by chain of command.
• Directs and redirects security resources for optimum safety.
• Ensures institutional buildings and state property are secured.
• Trains and counsels subordinates to ensure duty performance per state laws.
• Ensures control and use of weapons, keys, and agency equipment.
• Inspects posts where shift employees are deployed.
• Interviews and counsels inmates as necessary for maximum safety.
