Job summary

State of South Carolina is seeking a Security Supervisor to oversee housing-unit security staff and the custody of inmates, under the general supervision of the Shift Lieutenant.

The role includes conducting routine inspections of living areas for security, safety and sanitation, and leading investigations of misconduct. You will supervise performance, counsel staff, and train for required standards, while preparing necessary reports.

Qualifications

• Must meet minimum education: high school diploma and relevant experience; a related bachelor’s may substitute.
• Certified and able to complete basic supervisory training within six months.
• Experience in correctional, security, military or police work is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversee subordinate security and custody/control of inmates in housing units.
• Perform routine inspections of living areas for security, safety and sanitation.
• Conduct investigations of alleged misconduct by inmates and staff.
• Assist in counts; supervise staff performance, counsel, discipline and training.
• Prepare reports as needed.
