Job summary

The State of South Carolina is seeking a Supervisory role within the Department of Corrections, responsible for the overall supervision of subordinate security assigned to housing units and for custody and control of inmates. This position includes conducting inspections, investigations, and counts, with evaluative and disciplinary responsibilities.

Successful candidates will supervise staff, provide training, prepare reports, and ensure compliance with security and safety standards.

Qualifications

• High school diploma and relevant experience required.
• Bachelor's degree may substitute for some of the required experience.
• Must be certified by the SC Department of Corrections Training Academy and complete the Basic Supervisory Course within six months of entry.

Responsibilities

• Supervise security personnel assigned to housing units and oversee custody and control of inmates.
• Conduct routine inspections of living areas for security, safety, and sanitation compliance.
• Investigate alleged misconduct by inmates and staff in the area of responsibility.
• Assist in conducting formal and informal counts.
• Supervise job performance, conduct, and appearance; prepare evaluations of staff.
• Counsel, recommend disciplinary action, and train subordinate staff to required standards.
• Prepare reports as needed or required.
