Job summary

Aspiring manufacturing operations lead for a top-tier automotive plastics painter in Grand Rapids, MI. This role oversees the second shift, including one Team Leader and about 25 operators, focusing on safety, quality, and productivity.

You will drive staffing, coordinate with teams, and implement Lean and 5S improvements to sustain on-time delivery and optimal coating quality. A hands-on, proactive leader is required.

Qualifications

• Experience supervising in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
• Experience with unionized facilities and labor rules.
• Automotive plastics painting/finishing knowledge is desirable.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work second shift and maintain safety.

Responsibilities

• Provide hands-on leadership for second-shift paint operations.
• Lead Team Leader and ~25 production employees across loading, unloading, line support, inventory, material handling, and quality functions.
• Assign labor to meet daily production requirements and manage constraints.
• Monitor line performance, quality, scrap, downtime, and material usage; take corrective action.
• Promote safety compliance and environmental regulations.
• Collaborate with Quality/Engineering/Maintenance to resolve defects and variation.
• Support troubleshooting of automated paint line and related equipment.
• Ensure materials are staged and tracked to support operations.
• Conduct shift start-up meetings and effective handoffs.
• Train and develop employees, enforce standardized work, and apply policies.
• Complete shift reports and drive Lean, 5S, and continuous-improvement.
