Job summary

State of Indiana's Evansville Sub District is hiring Winter Seasonal Maintenance Workers to perform snow and ice removal, operate plows, and maintain highways and traffic signs. A CDL is required and a drug test will be administered.

Lifting 50 pounds and working in winter conditions are part of the job. The position pays $21.00 per hour and offers a short seasonal schedule with start-date incentives, including a $250 sign-on bonus and a $500 retention bonus for qualified hires.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or High School Equivalent (HSE) preferred.
• Must possess a valid driver's license.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
• Required to submit to and pass a drug test as a condition of employment.
• Must have the ability to move 50 pounds.
• Must have the ability to perform physical activities such as lifting, dragging, stooping, standing, and walking for long periods of time.
• Must have the ability to endure exposure to inclement weather.
• Must have the ability to operate specialty traffic equipment (e.g. bucket trucks, paint equipment, etc.).
• Must have the ability to follow directions and work as part of a team.
• Must have the ability to work unpredictable and non-traditional hours as necessary to perform winter operations activities.

Responsibilities

• Operate highway maintenance equipment to maintain, repair, and clean highways and right-of-way.
• Move and load supplies and materials.
• Winter operation duties including snow and ice removal.
• Emergency response activities such as: clean-up, traffic control, lane closures, placement of signs, and erecting barricades.
• Perform equipment maintenance such as: minor repairs, preventative maintenance, refueling, and pre-trip inspections.
• Follow INDOT Safety Policies and Procedures.
• Perform job documentation tasks such as entry into the Work Management System (WMS).
