Job summary

State of Minnesota is seeking Temporary Snowplow Operators within the Transportation Department for District 6A. Positions are emergency, intermittent, and may fill 32 vacancies across Albert Lea, Austin, Dresbach, Owatonna, Red Wing, Rochester, Stewartville, and Winona.

Shifts typically run midnight to noon or noon to midnight, with overtime possible. Minimum qualifications require a valid CDL with endorsements and drug testing, plus English literacy to manage logs and communications.

Qualifications

• Must possess a valid Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with no Airbrake Restriction or equivalent from another state and obtain a valid Class A CDL with no Airbrake Restriction and Tanker Endorsement within 6 months of initial placement into the position.
• Working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak and understand oral and written information; communicate with employees and the general public in-person or via two-way radio and other electronic devices; and maintain routine written logs and simple records.

Responsibilities

• Maintains roadways for snow and ice control.
• Prepares and inspects winter equipment.
• Performs preseason snow route inspection and post storm cleanup.
• Performs winter stockpile setup and transfer of anti-icing and de-icing chemicals.
• Installs, repairs, maintains, and removes snow fences; replaces mailboxes.
• Maintains documentation on snow and ice data for inventory and resource management.
• Performs traffic control set-ups and/or notifies dispatch of disabled vehicles.
