Job summary

Shelby County Schools is seeking a cafeteria helper to assist the School Nutrition Supervisor in preparing and serving nutritious meals for students and staff. The role requires following menus, recipes, and schedules while maintaining a clean, sanitary work area.

Responsibilities include cooking, serving, stocking supplies, and assisting with bag lunches as needed, all under HACCP and district safety guidelines.

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma or GED.
• Must successfully pass a background check and test negative on a tuberculosis (TB) skin test.
• Minimum of six (6) months of quantity food preparation or related experience.

Responsibilities

• Prepares food items for student and staff meals, following recipes and work schedules.
• Monitors cooking times and temperatures for safety and sanitation per HACCP guidelines.
• Sets up serving lines, serves food, and ensures cleanliness of serving areas and equipment.
• Performs accurate record-keeping and may operate a point-of-sale terminal as needed.
• Attends training to maintain and enhance job knowledge and skills.
