Job summary

Shelby County Schools is seeking a School Nutrition Assistant to support cafeteria operations. You will prepare and serve meals, follow recipes, and maintain a clean, sanitary environment for students and staff.

The role includes monitoring cooking times for safety, stocking supplies, and potentially serving as cashier using a POS terminal. A high school diploma or GED is required, along with background checks and a TB test.

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma or GED.
• Must successfully pass a background check and test negative on a tuberculosis (TB) skin test.
• Minimum of six (6) months of quantity food preparation or related experience.
• Degree Equivalency Formula: Bachelor’s Degree = 4 years plus required years of experience; Master’s Degree = 2 years plus required years of experience.

Responsibilities

• Prepares and serves nutritious meals for students and staff.
• Checks menu and follows recipes; assembles ingredients and utensils; cooks and serves.
• Monitors cooking times and temperatures to ensure food safety and sanitation.
• Sets up serving lines and maintains cleanliness of serving area and equipment.
• Assists in stocking supplies and monitors inventory; may rotate products.
• Operates a point-of-sale terminal as cashier when needed.
