Job summary

Richmond City Public Schools School Nutrition Services is seeking a part-time Food Service Assistant at Armstrong High School. The role involves preparing and serving meals in a school kitchen, following USDA/state guidelines, and maintaining sanitary conditions.

The position is 5.5 hours per day, 5 days per week, with a non-contract / 183-day term. Strong customer service and ability to work as part of a team are essential.

Qualifications

• High school education or equivalent.
• Six months' experience preferred in school cafeteria.
• Ability to understand and follow simple instructions.
• Basic math and reading/writing skills required.
• Some skill with kitchen utensils/equipment.
• Ability to work independently and as a team.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
• Spanish language skills a plus.

Responsibilities

• Prepares garnishes and serves food items to quality standards.
• Follows USDA/state guidelines when serving food.
• Receives and stores food in stockroom, freezers, and refrigerators.
• Cleans work surfaces and dining areas; maintains sanitary conditions.
• Washes pots, pans, kettles, and other utensils.
• Assists in estimating, ordering, receiving, and stocking food supplies.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
