Job summary

Richmond City Public Schools School Nutrition Services is seeking a part-time Food Service Assistant for Miles Jones Elementary School in Richmond, VA. The role covers a warm kitchen environment, meal preparation, serving, and adherence to health and safety guidelines.

The position is non-contract, 183 days, non-exempt, with a schedule of 5.5 hours per day for five days weekly. Applicants should be able to lift 50 lbs, follow instructions, and work well in a team while maintaining high standards

Qualifications

• High school education or equivalent.
• Minimum six months experience in school cafeteria prep and serving.
• Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written instructions.
• Able to perform simple math calculations.
• Able to read and write complete sentences.
• Ability to work independently and as a team.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.

Responsibilities

• Prepare garnishes and serve food items per guidelines.
• Follow USDA/state/local guidelines when serving food.
• Receive and store food in stockroom, freezers, and refrigerators.
• Clean sanitary work surfaces and fixtures.
• Maintain sanitary conditions per health standards.
• Wash pots, pans, kettles and utensils.
• Assist in estimating, ordering, receiving, stocking food supplies.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
