Job summary

Broken Arrow Public Schools seeks a Mechanic I in Transportation to maintain and repair diesel and gasoline school buses and related equipment. The role requires ASE School Bus Certification or Medium/Heavy Duty Truck Certification, a High School diploma or GED, and a valid CDL Class B with air brakes, passenger and school endorsements.

Responsibilities include diagnosing problems, performing routine maintenance, and ensuring compliance with district policies and safety regulations.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; ASE School Bus Certification or Medium/Heavy Duty Truck Certification required.
  • State school bus inspector certification required within 6 months of hire.
  • Minimum 2 years work experience in bus or medium/light duty truck repair; school bus industry preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnoses and repairs mechanical problems and maintains diesel and gasoline vehicles and equipment.
  • Adjusts timing mechanism, replaces spark plugs, and re-faces valves.
  • Rotates, aligns, and balances wheels.
  • Repairs and replaces damaged vehicle body parts.
  • Tests electrical systems and makes necessary repairs.
  • Checks and repairs doors and lifts.
