Job summary

Sand Springs Public Schools Transportation Department seeks a skilled Bus Mechanic to maintain and repair district buses and related vehicles. The role requires diagnosing and repairing mechanical and electrical systems, performing preventive maintenance, and safely operating vehicles on routes as needed.

The ideal candidate holds a high school diploma or GED, a valid state bus certification, and a CDL (will train).

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required
• Valid State School bus certification and all health and employment standards required
• Technical training and appropriate years of experience set by the Board
• Commercial Driver's License required (will train)
• Good aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities
• Satisfy all district requirements about physical health and citizenship
• Alternatives to above qualifications as Board may find appropriate and safety standards
• Stand/sit for extended periods; lift up to 80 pounds occasionally and 20 pounds regularly
• Visual and hearing requirements for job performance

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair district buses and automotive fleets
• Knowledge of major repairs to buses and automotive fleets including gasoline and diesel overhaul, transmissions, workbench overhaul, and welding
• Proficiency to operate all buses and support vehicles
• Perform preventive maintenance on fleet and shop equipment with safety and high workmanship standards
• Drive the bus route as necessary
• Perform all other duties as assigned
