Job summary

Montgomery-Public-Schools is seeking a School Bus Mechanic to service and repair district buses. You will diagnose, repair and maintain diesel and gasoline engines, braking systems, HVAC, and electrical components, while ensuring safety standards and inspections are met.

The role requires a high school diploma (associates/technical preferred), valid Alabama CDL with P and S endorsements, and the ability to operate a school bus as needed.

Qualifications

  • Experience as a diesel and/or auto mechanic.
  • ASE certifications preferred.
  • Computer proficiency for inventory and diagnostics.

Responsibilities

  • Examine vehicles to determine damage or malfunctions.
  • Test drive vehicles and components using diagnostic devices.
  • Repair, relining, replacing, and adjusting brakes.
  • Follow checklists to inspect belts, hoses, steering, brakes and fuel systems.
  • Plan procedures using manuals and experience.
  • Test and adjust repaired systems to spec.
  • Discuss vehicle problems with bus drivers.
  • Perform routine maintenance such as oil changes and tune-ups.
  • Disassemble units and inspect wear.
  • Repair air conditioning, heating, engine cooling and electrical systems.
