Job summary

First Student is hiring a Diesel Technician in East Hartford, CT to maintain and repair school buses for CREC Schools. This full-time position runs Mon-Fri in a day shift with a union pay rate of $31.28/hr, plus up to $2.00/hr extra for ASE School Bus Series certifications.

Qualifications

• 1 year of diesel or automotive maintenance and repair experience, or equivalent technical school education and experience.
• Vehicle diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
• Valid driver's license required.
• CDL Class B, or ability to obtain within 60 days of employment.
• Possession of a mechanic's tool set to complete assigned duties.
• Willingness to participate in the ASE certification program.
• Strong computer skills.
• Ability to work safely and follow maintenance procedures.
• Subject to DOT drug testing and physical.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair school buses to ensure safety and reliability.
• Perform inspections and preventive maintenance.
• Diagnose and repair brakes and brake systems.
• Perform engine tune-ups and related repairs.
• Repair suspensions, drivetrains, transmissions, and clutches.
• Complete preventive maintenance and safety inspections.
• Complete work orders accurately and on time.
• Support a clean, organized shop environment.
