Job summary

First Student is hiring a Diesel Technician to service New Britain Public Schools in New Britain, CT. The position offers a Monday–Friday day shift (1:00 PM–9:30 PM) with competitive hourly pay and company-paid ASE testing and CDL training materials.

As a Diesel Technician you will maintain and repair buses, diagnose issues, and perform preventive maintenance to ensure safety and reliability for students across the community. Excellent benefits and advancement opportunities accompany this role.

Qualifications

• 1 year of diesel or automotive maintenance/repair experience or equivalent technical schooling.
• Valid driver's license required.
• CDL Class B or ability to obtain within 60 days of employment; company-paid training.
• Possession of a mechanic's tool set to complete duties.
• Willingness to participate in the ASE certification program (training and bonuses provided).
• Strong computer skills.
• This position is safety-sensitive and DOT drug testing is required.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair school buses to ensure safety and reliability.
• Diagnose and perform all phases of vehicle maintenance (brakes, engines, suspensions, drive trains, transmissions, etc.).
• Perform preventive maintenance and safety inspections.
• Complete work orders accurately.
• Assist with mobile emergency repair services when needed.
