Job summary

YMCA of the Greater Tri-Valley is seeking an Assistant Teacher for the YCare School Age Child Care program. Under supervision of the Site Director, you will help deliver the daily program and create a warm, safe, and nurturing environment for school age children.

You will support curriculum implementation, supervise activities, coordinate with school staff and participate in staff meetings and trainings to ensure program quality and safety.

Qualifications

• CPR, First Aid and AED Certification (may obtain with YMCA)
• Nationwide Criminal and Sex Offender Registry Background Screening
• Must meet licensing requirements under NYS OCFS for Assistant Teacher

Responsibilities

• Establish positive relationships with parents, children, school personnel and other staff members.
• Assist Group Teacher with curriculum and lesson plans including arts, crafts, active games and snack.
• Supervise children and ensure they are never left alone; monitor all children at all times.
• Support positive reinforcement and discipline as needed.
• Maintain a physically and emotionally safe environment for the children.
• Attend required staff meetings and participate in program planning.
• Record attendance, supply requests, DSS paperwork, newsletters and lesson plans; meet deadlines.
• Follow policies and substitute as needed during snow days/holidays.
• Substitute at other YMCA SACC sites as required.
• Pursue training and certifications related to the position and maintain current certifications.
