Job summary

The YMCA of the Greater Tri-Valley is seeking an Assistant Teacher for the YCare School Age Child Care program in New York. Under the Site Director, you will support the Group Teacher, help implement the daily curriculum with arts, crafts and active games, and maintain a warm, safe, nurturing environment for children.

Required qualifications include CPR, First Aid and AED certification, NY licensing requirements, and the ability to pass a background check.

Qualifications

• CPR, First Aid and AED Certification (may obtain with YMCA)
• Must meet NYS Office of Children and Family Services Licensing requirements for Assistant Teacher
• Pass Nationwide Criminal and Sex Offender Registry Background Screening
• Physical and social environments reflect Y's values

Responsibilities

• Establish positive relationships with parents, children, school personnel and staff.
• Assist Group Teacher with curriculum, lesson plans, arts and crafts, active games and snacks.
• Supervise children to ensure they are never left alone and are watched at all times.
• Support positive reinforcement and appropriate discipline.
• Maintain a physically and mentally safe environment for the children.
• Attend required staff meetings and contribute to programming decisions.
• Maintain attendance, monthly supply requests, newsletters and lesson plans; meet deadlines.
• Follow Association and departmental policies and substitute policy.
• Attend YMCA program days off and Snow Days as needed; substitute at other SACC sites as required.
• Pursue training and certifications related to the position and maintain current credentials.
