Job summary

YMCA of the Greater Tri-Valley is seeking an Assistant Teacher for the YCare School Age Child Care program. This role supports a warm, nurturing environment, assists with curriculum, supervision, and documentation, and participates in staff meetings and trainings.

Responsibilities include building positive relationships with families, maintaining safety, and following policies. Requires CPR/First Aid/AED and NY licensing readiness; HS diploma or equivalent or 1 year experience with children

Qualifications

• CPR, First Aid and AED Certification (may obtain with YMCA)
• Must pass Nationwide Criminal and Sex Offender Registry Background Screening
• Must meet all Association-Wide training requirements in addition to those set forth by their Supervisor
• Must meet the qualifications to be an Assistant Teacher according to NYS OCFS Licensing requirements
• Must ensure that the physical and social environments for program delivery reflect the Y’s definition of character and value
• High School diploma or equivalent
• OR One year experience working with children under 13 years of age

Responsibilities

• Establish positive relationships with parents, children, school personnel and staff. Be a positive role model.
• Assist Group Teacher with implementing quality program curriculum and daily plans.
• Assist with supervision to ensure children are never left alone and are watched at all times.
• Assist with positive reinforcement and disciplinary needs of children.
• Maintain a physically and mentally safe environment for the children.
• Attend required staff meetings and provide input on programming issues.
• Assist with record-keeping including attendance, supply requests, DSS paperwork, newsletters, and lesson plans.
