Job summary

The YMCA of the Greater Tri-Valley is seeking an Assistant Teacher for the YCare School Age Child Care program in Whitesboro, NY. You will support the Group Teacher in delivering engaging activities, supervise children, and maintain a warm, safe environment that promotes physical, social, and intellectual growth.

You will participate in trainings, attend staff meetings, and help with attendance, lesson plans, and program logistics, while upholding the Y's values and safety standards.

Qualifications

• CPR, First Aid and AED Certification (may obtain with YMCA).
• Must meet all Association-Wide training requirements in addition to those set forth by their Supervisor.
• Must meet the qualifications to be an Assistant Teacher according to New York State Office of Children and Family Services Licensing requirements.
• Must be able to pass a Nationwide Criminal and Sex Offender Registry Background Screening.
• Must ensure that the physical and social environments for program delivery reflect the Y’s definition of character and value.

Responsibilities

• Establish positive relationships with parents, children, school personnel and other staff members.
• Assist the Group Teacher in implementing quality program curriculum and lesson plans.
• Assist with supervision of children and ensure they are never left alone.
• Assist with positive reinforcement and disciplinary needs of children.
• Assist in maintaining a safe environment for the children.
• Attend required staff meetings and provide input on programming issues.
• Assist with record-keeping including daily attendance and lesson plans.
• Follow and enforce Association and departmental policies.
