Job summary

The YMCA of the Greater Tri-Valley is seeking an Assistant Teacher for the YCare School Age Child Care program. Under the Site Director's supervision, you will support the Group Teacher and help create a warm, safe environment for children to grow physically, emotionally and intellectually.

You will implement daily curriculum, supervise children, attend staff meetings, maintain attendance records, and help with program duties while upholding YMCA policies and values.

Qualifications

• CPR, First Aid and AED Certification (may obtain with YMCA).
• Must meet all Association-Wide training requirements in addition to those set forth by their Supervisor.
• Must meet the qualifications to be an Assistant Teacher according to New York State Office of Children and Family Services Licensing requirements.
• Must be able to pass a Nationwide Criminal and Sex Offender Registry Background Screening.
• Must ensure that the physical and social environments for program delivery reflect the Y’s definition of character and value.
• High School diploma or its equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Establish positive relationships with parents, children, school personnel and other staff members.
• Assist the Group Teacher in implementing quality program curriculum and lesson plans of the daily program.
• Assist with supervision of children and ensure they are never left alone.
• Assist with positive reinforcement and disciplinary needs of children.
• Maintain a safe environment for the children.
• Attend required staff meetings and provide input on programming issues.
• Assist with record-keeping including attendance, supply requests, DSS paperwork, and lesson plans.
