Job summary

First Merchants Bank is seeking an SBL Business Development Officer to originate and manage a profitable SBA loan portfolio, building relationships with borrowers and external referral sources to sustain a strong pipeline.

From marketing and networking to document collection, financial analysis, and underwriting coordination, you will guide loans through the process, ensure compliance, and deliver exceptional client service while contributing to growth across our SBL team.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of SBA loan origination experience.
• Strong ability to market and network to build a robust pipeline.
• Understanding of SBA SOP and loan eligibility.
• Ability to spread loans and underwrite credits.
• Excellent communication and client service orientation.

Responsibilities

• Identify and cultivate relationships with external referral sources to maintain a consistent pipeline of SBA loan opportunities.
• Promote the SBL value proposition and market the bank’s advantages.
• Manage pipeline, follow up on leads, and provide activity data to management.
• Source loans matching credit parameters and coordinate with Underwriting.
• Assemble loan packages, prepare income-statement spreads and brief memos.
• Collect documents from borrowers and ensure proper security for sensitive information.
• Coordinate with borrowers and underwriting to address issues and obtain required documentation.
• Support underwriters and closers to gather necessary materials.
• Maintain positive relationships with clients and internal stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with regulations and banking policies.
