Job summary

Baker Tilly, a leading advisory, tax and assurance firm, seeks a State & Local Tax Director (Indirect Tax) in Atlanta to lead our SALT practice for middle market and Fortune 500 clients. You will guide nexus analyses, credits and incentives, and property tax strategies in a collaborative, growth-driven environment.

You’ll mentor staff, supervise multi-state reviews, and partner with CFOs to optimize outcomes while delivering high‑quality service across income, franchise and sales tax disciplines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
• Masters in Taxation or LLM preferred.
• CPA and/or JD certification required.

Responsibilities

• Be a trusted advisor to middle market and Fortune 500 clients by providing strategic state and local tax consulting services.
• Manage multi-state reviews analyzing income, franchise, sales and use, payroll, and other taxes to identify exemptions and incentives.
• Counsel clients on state tax controversies, prepare ruling requests, and support audits.
• Plan and execute tax projects including due diligence and voluntary disclosures.
• Maintain ongoing client communication and mentor team members.
