Job summary

BDO USA, LLP is seeking a State & Local Tax Director to lead and develop the SALT practice, partnering with Principals and Managing Directors to achieve business goals. The role emphasizes project management, technical leadership, and client-centric service.

The position involves mentoring senior staff, driving state tax research and compliance, and expanding client relationships through strategic initiatives and cross-service collaboration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Taxation required or preferred; Master’s degree preferred.
• Juris Doctorate preferred; CPA certification or equivalent is a plus.
• 9+ years SALT experience; supervisory experience on projects or engagements.

Responsibilities

• Research state and local tax issues using state guidance and formalize positions.
• Oversee tax compliance engagements and ensure timely, accurate filings.
• Provide tax consulting solutions by combining tax knowledge with industry/business insights.
• Represent clients in SALT matters before authorities and respond to inquiries.
• Act as SALT subject matter expert for designated industries and drive cross-selling.
