Job summary

BDO USA, LLP seeks a Tax Managing Director, State and Local Taxation to provide written tax advice, evaluate actions to reduce tax burden, and ensure compliance for key clients. The role emphasizes marketing, networking, and leading SALT engagements within our Tax Services leadership team.

The position requires extensive SALT experience, superior communication, and the ability to guide complex tax questions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or other relevant field, required
• Master's degree in Accounting, Taxation or other relevant field, preferred
• Juris Doctorate, preferred
• Ten (10) or more years of SALT experience, required
• Prior experience supervising tax professionals on a project or engagement basis, required
• Prior experience preparing and/or reviewing tax provisions, highly preferred
• Prior experience with corporate taxation, consolidations and partnerships, preferred
• CPA certification or other relevant certification, preferred
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Excel and Word, preferred
• Exposure to standard tax applications and research tools, preferred

Responsibilities

• Research: identify when research is necessary and conduct investigations
• Tax Compliance: ensure client compliance and identify options to minimize burdens
• Tax Consulting: handle inquiries from federal and state agencies and draft responses
• Tax Controversy: represent clients before tax authorities
• Tax Specialization: act as SALT industry expert and identify cross-selling opportunities
• Accounting for Income Taxes - SFAS109: prepare tax accrual workpapers
• ASC740-10: apply tax standards and document financial benefits
• Strategy Development: develop ideas to reduce taxes or expenses and lead SALT campaigns
• Other duties as required
