The University of Texas at Austin invites applications for a Robotics Software Engineer to develop, integrate, and deploy a shared robotics software stack for HERO deployments. You will work across research and engineering teams to translate evolving research software into robust, deployable systems, with emphasis on reliability and scalable interfaces.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or related field.
  • Two+ years of professional or research software engineering experience in robotic, autonomous, distributed, or complex systems.
  • Strong proficiency in C++ and Python.
  • Linux-based systems experience and debugging OS, process, networking, and software interfaces.
  • Experience with ROS 2 or similar middleware.
  • Ability to design, integrate, test, and debug complex software spanning multiple processes.

Responsibilities

  • Own the architecture and maintenance of the Center's common robotics software stack.
  • Develop and maintain standardized interfaces across multiple robot platforms.
  • Create abstractions for robot capabilities, sensing, data collection, and monitoring.
  • Evaluate new robotics software frameworks and recommend adoption.
  • Coordinate with researchers and hardware engineer for deployment readiness.
  • Develop ROS 2 packages and integration with research components.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex software failures across components.
  • Design architectures that evolve experimental components while keeping stable interfaces.
