Job summary

The University of Texas at Austin is seeking a Robotics Hardware Engineer to develop, integrate, maintain, and deploy robotic platforms for HERO deployments across multiple sites. You will integrate sensors, compute, and components with off-the-shelf systems to ensure safe, reliable, and deployable research platforms.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Mechatronics, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Two or more years of relevant professional, research, or field engineering experience with robotic systems.
  • Programming proficiency in Python and C++ (or comparable robotics languages).
  • Experience with ROS2 and hands-on hardware-software integration.

Responsibilities

  • Own hardware and software integration, readiness, maintenance, and field deployment of mobile robotic platforms.
  • Develop and maintain standardized platform configurations for replication across HERO sites.
  • Translate research and deployment needs into robot hardware, sensing, computing, and integration requirements.
  • Coordinate with researchers to ensure platforms support scientific goals.
  • Establish procedures for setup, calibration, inspection, maintenance and repair.
