Job summary

The University of Texas at Austin’s Center for Human and Robot Co-Adaptation is seeking a Robotics Software Engineer to build and deploy a shared software stack that supports HERO deployments across multiple sites, and to provide researchers with reliable interfaces for development and testing.

You will develop ROS 2 packages, integrate algorithms, and ensure robust operation of long-running robotic systems while coordinating with researchers and engineers for platform integration and upgrades.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field.
  • Two+ years of relevant software engineering experience with robotic or distributed systems.
  • Strong programming in C++ and Python.
  • Proficiency with Linux and debugging OS, networking, and software interfaces.
  • Experience with ROS 2 or similar middleware.
  • Ability to design, integrate, test, and debug complex software across processes.

Responsibilities

  • Own the Center's common robotics software stack architecture, integration, readiness, and maintenance.
  • Develop and maintain standardized interfaces and configurations across multiple robot platforms and HERO sites.
  • Create abstractions for robot capabilities, sensing, data collection, and monitoring.
  • Evaluate and adopt new robotics software frameworks and tools as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with researchers and hardware engineers to ensure deployable software across platforms.
