Job summary

Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is hiring for Transportation Technician I/II in West Valley City. You’ll join the frontline maintenance crew keeping Utah highways safe in all weather.

Training through UDOT's Transportation Education Program (TEP) enables advancement from Technician I to II. The role involves operating snowplows and loaders, tracking work with department software, and supporting construction projects.

Qualifications

• CDL Class A or ability to obtain within 6 months.
• Must report to West Valley Station within 30 minutes of call.
• Ability to lift at least 50 lbs.
• Must maintain a smartphone with data plan.
• Commitment to UDOT TEP certifications and continued education.

Responsibilities

• Perform general maintenance on state routes, highways and drainage features.
• Operate heavy machinery including snowplows, salt spreaders, and blowers for winter road clearance.
• Operate and perform basic maintenance on loaders, backhoes, and graders.
• Use department software to track assets and document work by crews and contractors.
• Manage roadside vegetation with herbicide application.
• Work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks.
