Utah Department of Transportation is hiring a Maintenance Transportation Technician I/II in Orem. This front-line role covers highway upkeep, using equipment and tools to keep roadways safe in all conditions. Start at Technician I with advancement through UDOT’s TEP program.

The position offers full-time, year-round work with opportunities to cross-train into construction inspection and materials testing after about 18 months. A CDL is required or obtainable within 6 months.

Qualifications

• A Class A CDL or ability to obtain one within 6 months of hire.
• The ability to report to Region Three shop within a 30-minute response time and maintain 24-hour availability for operational needs.
• The ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
• Maintain a smartphone with a data plan (UDOT provides a monthly taxable allowance).
• Commitment to training and certifications through the UDOT TEP program.

Responsibilities

• Roadway maintenance: lane leveling, crack sealing, grading, shoulders work.
• Operate heavy equipment (front-end loaders, backhoes, graders, Vactor units) and snowplows.
• Perform routine servicing and preventative maintenance, plus welding, plumbing, and general trades work.
• Support roadside and infrastructure operations and vegetation management.
• Use department software to track assets and document field work.
• Work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks.
• Cross-train in construction inspection and materials testing after ~18 months.
