Job summary

Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is hiring a Transportation Technician I/II in Ogden. The role involves front-line highway maintenance, equipment operation, and vegetation management, with opportunities to cross-train after ~18 months.

Qualified candidates will hold a Class A CDL or be able to obtain one within 6 months, and must pass a criminal history check plus pre-employment drug testing. This is a full-time on-site position at the Ogden Maintenance Station.

Qualifications

A Class A CDL or ability to obtain one within 6 months (UDOT provides training).
Report to Ogden Maintenance Station within 30-minute response time and be available 24/7 for operational needs.
Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
Maintain a smartphone with data plan (department allowance).
Commit to certifications and continued education via UDOT TEP.

Responsibilities

Perform general maintenance on state routes, highways, and drainage features.
Operate heavy machinery (snowplows, salt spreaders, blowers) to clear roadways in winter.
Operate and maintain heavy equipment (loaders, backhoes, graders).
Use department software to track assets and document work by crews and contractors.
Manage roadside vegetation, including herbicide application.
Work outdoors in varying weather and complete physically demanding tasks.
