Job summary

Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) seeks a Maintenance Transportation Technician I/II to join the Provo/Orem Maintenance Station. The role offers hands-on highway maintenance, operation of heavy equipment, and opportunities to specialize through cross-training after about 18 months.

Starting wage ranges from $22.44 to $25.22 per hour, with chances for wage increases as you complete the Transportation Education Program (TEP).

Qualifications

Must obtain a Class A CDL within 6 months of hire.
Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks.
Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Proactive in completing required training and certifications through UDOT TEP.

Responsibilities

Perform general maintenance on state routes, highways, and drainage features.
Operate heavy machinery (snowplows, salt spreaders, blowers) during winter storms.
Operate and maintain heavy equipment (front-end loaders, backhoes, graders).
Use department software to track assets and document work by UDOT crews and contractors.
Assist with vegetation management and seasonal snow removal.
Be prepared to cross-train in construction inspection and materials testing after ~18 months.
