Job summary

Benton County's Public Works/Road and Bridge Maintenance division seeks a Road Maintenance Worker I/II to perform roadway maintenance, operate a range of equipment, and support safety at work sites. The role includes traffic control, tree trimming, guard rail replacement, and weekend/on-call duties as needed.

A flagger card is required within six months, and Worker II duties require a CDL Class A with tanker endorsement to be obtained within six months.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Worker I requires 1 year of maintenance/road-related experience or an equivalent education/experience mix.
  • Worker II requires 3 years of maintenance/road construction/traffic control or an equivalent mix.
  • Flagger Card required within 6 months of hire.
  • Worker II requires Washington State CDL; Class A with tanker endorsement (within 6 months).

Responsibilities

  • Assist in general County road maintenance.
  • Operate equipment to clear roadsides and maintain visibility.
  • Replace damaged guard rails and ensure code compliance.
  • Assist with traffic control at work sites and maintain job site safety.
  • Trim trees and brush from rights-of-way; use chainsaws and related tools.
  • Transport equipment in county vehicles and secure loads.
  • Perform snow and ice removal and patching, paving, and other road repairs as assigned.
  • Maintain records of labor, materials, and equipment repairs.
