Job summary

King County is seeking a dedicated Road Maintenance Worker to join the Road Services Division. The role involves traffic control, operating light vehicles, roadway repairs, drainage work, and seasonal snow/ice tasks to keep unincorporated roads safe.

Ideal candidates will have hands-on road maintenance experience, commit to safety, teamwork, and adaptability to changing conditions. Valid WA driver’s license and flagging certification are required or obtainable within two months.

Qualifications

• Experience in construction, road maintenance, or related heavy manual labor.
• Traffic control knowledge and ability to set up control measures on streets/highways.
• Ability to perform minor drainage construction/repairs (pipes, basins, manholes, culverts).
• Safe operation of hand tools and equipment used in construction/road maintenance.
• Understand safety protocols for construction/road maintenance, incl. fall protection and hazardous materials.

Responsibilities

• Ensure safety of crews and public by applying traffic control measures (signs, cones, barricades).
• Operate a variety of vehicles including smaller pickups and trailers (<26,000 lbs GVW).
• Provide direction to Road Maintenance Worker I.
• Prepare surfaces for asphalt overlay and repairs; shoulder maintenance; install guardrails.
