Job summary

South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks a Highway Maintenance Worker to support the construction, repair, and preservation of roads and bridges on the state highway system. You will operate motorized equipment and assist with maintenance tasks in a demanding outdoor environment.

The job involves skilled manual labor including patching, sign installation, concrete work, drainage, vegetation management, and equipment maintenance.

Qualifications

• Six (6) months of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence.
• A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement.

Responsibilities

• Maintenance of roads and bridges on the state highway system.
• Operates motorized equipment used in highway construction and maintenance.
• Performs safety inspections and routine preventive maintenance on equipment.
