Job summary

Arkansas Department of Transportation is seeking a Maintenance Aide I to support highway maintenance operations across the Benton area. Responsibilities include mowing, tree trimming, operating a single-axle dump truck, loading materials, flagging traffic, and assisting with work zones and signs.

Strong physical stamina, ability to follow written and verbal instructions, and a valid Class A CDL with tanker endorsement—within 90/180 days—are required. Pre-employment drug test applies.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, write and speak English.
• Experience operating a truck or heavy equipment preferred.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Ability to pass CDL written test within 90 days and driving test within 180 days.

Responsibilities

• Mow grass and weeds with tractors and gang mowers.
• Perform landscape maintenance and tree cutting along highways.
• Operate single-axle dump truck for materials.
• Use power tools for highway repairs.
• Load, unload and stack salt, sand, cement, chemicals.
• Flag traffic and assist with signs and cones in work zones.
• Respond to emergencies as needed, 24/7.
• Assist crew with setup and teardown of signs and cones.
