Job summary

State-of-South-Carolina is seeking a road maintenance worker to flag traffic in work zones and perform routine upkeep on roadways, signs, and bridges. You will assist with paving drives, patching, litter removal, and general maintenance tasks.

There are no minimum training requirements, but a valid driver’s license is required and a Class A CDL must be obtained within six months. You must be able to lift up to 50 lbs, work outdoors, and may serve extended hours during emergencies.

Qualifications

• No minimum training or experience required.
• Must have a valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
• CDL Class A must be obtained within 6 months of placement.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks.
• May require overtime or extended hours during emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Flag traffic for work zones.
• Perform routine maintenance (litter/debris pickup, curb and gutter cleaning, bridge cleaning, paving drives, patching).
• Assist with installation and maintenance of traffic signs and pavement markings.
• Operate power tools (chain saws, pole saws, weed eaters, augers, jackhammers) as needed.
• Operate standard dump trucks to haul materials and equipment.
• Use hand tools (shovel, axe, hammer) for maintenance tasks.
• Assist in emergency and inclement weather operations; may need 12-hour shifts.
